Accepting Change
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8NIV
Our lives have been forever changed due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Change is hard. Change takes preparation and patience. But what if you have had no time to prepare or plan for the change. Many of us have been forced into working in an environment that although familiar is not our most productive space when it comes to fulfilling our work responsibilities. Changing work environments is already stressful. However working with half the tools and resources we are accustomed to in our home which is typically our escape place from work is over the top. Others of us may not be working but are forced into changing our daily activities and distancing ourselves from family and friends. That is change that is not easy for most. We are made for relationships and how can you thrive in your relationships without face to face time?
Sometimes change is not just hard, it is painful. But whether we like it or not, the living of this life involves change. And pain. Life is change. The longer we live, the more we know that the only thing constant in this life is change. Whether our changes seem hard or make us happy, change teaches us that life is delicate, uncertain, and temporary. Nothing lasts forever.
Well something lasts forever. God. “For I, the Lord, do not change…” Malachi 3:6a
God doesn’t change. He has always been and will always be never changing. We can be brave because Jesus is constant, even when our circumstances are not.
I am so glad to know that we serve a God who stays the same. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Whether we perform our job at a workplace or at home. Whether we are able to attend our bible studies, lunch dates, and family functions or stay home. God is a constant and dependable anchor.
So how to do you continue to accept these changes? Spend time in God’s Word. Spend time talking to Him – the unchanging One. Not only does God stay the same but so do His plans for us that are based on His Word.
“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation.” Psalm 33:11
And because His plans are unshakeable, His love towards us never wavers. His Word is dependable now and always, so we can find comfort in our relationship with Him whatever change come our way. Despite feeling like some changes in my life extend far beyond my control, I have come to know the beauty of resting in the arms of a God who is always totally in control of the circumstances in my life and so can you.
Here is a bit of encouragement for you today…Nothing that’s happening to us is a surprise to God. And because He does not change and is faithful to all generations, you can trust Him to carry you through whatever changes you face today and in the coming weeks. Allow this unexpected change to motivate you to be closer to Him and His Word. Let Him be your refuge, your comfort and your strength.
